WHICH DEMOCRACY FOR A MULTIPOLAR AGONISTIC WORLD?

In this presentation I will examine which consequences can be drawn in the field of international relations from the agonistic approach that I have been elaborating. The central question that I want to address is what becomes of democracy in the multipolar world that I am advocating. Does my critique of cosmopolitanism require discarding the idea the democracy could ever be established world-wide? I will argue that, provided we accept the possibility of a different forms of democracy, according to the inscription of the democratic idea in a variety of contexts, a democratic multipolar order can be envisaged.

The lecture will be folowed by a drink reception in the Raadzaal.
